What is MCO and DD Quota
The Movement Control Office (MCO) is a railway liaison office maintained at major railway junctions across India to assist serving defence personnel, ex-servicemen, and their dependents with emergency railway travel. MCOs coordinate with Indian Railways to secure berths under the Defence Department Quota (DD Quota / DDQ) — a reserved quota meant for sudden duty movement, unplanned leave, or medical emergencies.
DD Quota bookings can be made up to 30 days before the date of journey, strictly on wait-listed tickets (not RAC), and are allotted on a first-come-first-served basis. Serving personnel get priority; leftover seats are made available to ex-servicemen and their families. Telephonic requests are not accepted — requisitions must be made through an official letter, fax, WhatsApp (at select MCOs), or in person with valid ID/dependent card.
