ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) empanelled hospitals are private and government hospitals that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ECHS to provide cashless treatment to ECHS beneficiaries — ex-servicemen, war widows, and their dependents. Empanelment is granted after the hospital meets ECHS’s quality and infrastructure requirements, often verified through NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) accreditation.

Treatment at an empanelled hospital is generally cashless — the beneficiary does not pay the bill directly; the hospital bills the ECHS Polyclinic instead. However, empanelment is time-bound. Each hospital’s MOU has a validity period, and if it expires without renewal, the hospital is treated as non-empanelled until the agreement is renewed — meaning cashless treatment may not be available there until the MOU status is updated.
